GYC takes their "stuff" to the streets

GYC finished a wonderful year with an awesome advocacy event. Earlier in the year each school participated in a "stuff cart" activity; to wrap up the year GYC district representatives took the "stuff carts" to the streets of Logan.

Armed with fliers, brochures, and sandwich boards, students were able to educate many members of the community on e-cigarettes. Students talked to individuals at both the Cache Valley Transit Center and the South Wal-Mart. E-cigarettes continue to be a hot topic, and their use continues to rise, especially among youth, despite youth having no legal access to them in Utah.

This was a great activity to raise awareness about youth access to e-cigarettes and on raising awareness that no one really knows what "stuff" is in e-cigarettes. One main messaged shared was, "You wouldn't eat something when you don't know what is in it, why would you smoke an e-cigarette when it is impossible to know what "stuff" is in it?" It really is impossible to know for sure what is in e-cigarettes since they are unregulated. Students also pointed out all the flavors you can get an e-cigarette in, asking,
"who is this really targeting?"

What an awesome way to end an amazing year of education and policy advocacy.
